Ride Team's Duties and Responsibilities

Road Captain

  • Conduct a Safe Ride and evaluate Riders Capabilities.

  • Signal riders of intended lane changes, stops, road conditions, and formation changes.

  • Maintain control and integrity of the group.

  • Pre-Ride the route prior to the actual ride to search for hazards.

  • Map the route, establish rest area's, Set Gas Stops and rest stop locations and intervals.

  • Make allowances for road construction and hazards

  • Brief members before the Start of the Ride.

    • Explain the Ride Plans

    • Destination

    • Route to be taken

    • Length of the Ride

    • Scheduled Stops

    • Gas

    • Food

    • Restroom Breaks

    • Identify when and where the Official Ride Starts and Ends

    • Identify other Road Team Members for the Ride

    • Identify Tail Gunner(s) for the Ride

    • Explain the duties of the Road Captain and Tail Gunners

    • Question the Riders about any special need or concerns they may have

    • Obtain medical Information on riders

    • Regulate Speed of group

    • Maintain a first aide kit, tool kit and siphon hose

    • Water for emergencies

    • Freeway Traffic management

    • Twisted Roads

    • Riding Position

    • Watches for Illegal Drugs and Alcohol before and during a group ride

    • Group Riding Rules

    • Hand Signals

    • Along with the Tail Gunner, do a bike and rider count.

The Road Captain is completely in charge of, and responsible for, every member of the ride group including the Officers of the Chapter. This will vary some depending on who you are riding with.
